INSTRUCTORS

A multidisciplinary faculty will outline business and clinical considerations for establishing a balance and mobility program that is both clinically and financially successful. All of the speakers have extensive backgrounds in balance function and balance disorders, and will be available throughout the seminar. Participants will have ample opportunity to experience first-hand the different points of view from a variety of professional disciplines.

Nancy R. Frappier, MD
Neurologist

Dr. Frappier obtained her BA in biochemistry at Northwestern University and her MD from Indiana University School of Medicine. She completed her internship in internal medicine and her neurology residency at Ohio State University, where she was chief resident in her final year. She is board certified in neurology. Dr. Frappier is currently with Neurology Indiana, LLC where she enjoys the diversity of her general neurology practice and seeing patients of all ages with a wide variety of neurological disorders. She has special interests in dizziness, stroke, dementia, and rehabilitation, and is trained in EMG, EEG, and ENG. Dr. Frappier has been the medical director of the St. Joseph Hospital Acute Physical Rehabilitation Unit since 2002. She is also medical director of the St. Joseph Hospital Balance Center that opened in September 2007.

Don Worthington, PhD

Dr. Worthington received his BS and MS from Utah State University, and his PhD from Northwestern University. Dr. Worthington served as Director of the Army Audiology and Speech Center at Walter Reed General Hospital and later as Director of Audiology and Speech Pathology at Boys Town National Research Hospital. Dr. Worthington has served as President of the American Auditory Society, consultant to the Veteran Administration Hearing Aid Program, and has served on numerous other state and national committees. In 1993, he moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, where he founded the nationally recognized IHC Hearing and Balance Center. Dr. Worthington has authored a number of publications, and received numerous honors and awards for his contributions to the field of audiology.

Jim Megna, PT, MS, NCS

Mr. Megna received his BS from the State University of New York at Stony Brook, School of Health Sciences and his MS in healthcare administration from Independence University. He is certified by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties as a specialist in neurological physical therapy and holds a certificate of competency in vestibular rehabilitation from Emory University. He has managed brain injury inpatient rehab units as well as project management for hospital administration. Mr. Megna is the author of a textbook chapter entitled Balance and Vestibular Rehabilitation in the Patient with Acquired Brain Injury and has several peer-reviewed publications in scientific journals.

Lewis M. Nashner, ScD

Dr. Nashner received BS and MS degrees in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering, and his ScD in Biomedical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He was a senior scientist at the Robert S. Dow Neurological Sciences Institute, and served as its chairman from 1980 until founding NeuroCom in 1984. Dr. Nashner has published more than 70 original research articles and book chapters in the field of human balance and movement control and is currently an adjunct professor of Physiology at the Oregon Health Sciences University. He remains active in research and development, education, and consultation.

Marcia Hall Thompson, PT, DPT

Dr. Thompson graduated with a BS in Physical Therapy from Russell Sage College and a clinical doctorate (DPT) in Physical Therapy from the University of the Pacific. She is currently a doctoral candidate in the advanced neurology DSc program at Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions. Dr. Thompson has more than 20 years of experience in patient care and program management and has started two successful balance programs in hospital-based outpatient settings. As Clinical Director, she educates balance teams in the integration of NeuroCom products into their clinical practice and program development.
